Social Prescribing for Young People is a targeted intervention delivered by Chesterfield FC Community Trust. It supports young people aged 11 to 16 who may be struggling with their mental health, confidence, attendance, or ability to engage fully with school and the community.

Working alongside schools and support services, the programme helps young people access non-clinical support to improve their wellbeing, build self-esteem, and develop practical life skills. It creates positive, person-centred pathways that will enhance long-term outcomes.

This service provides an alternative to traditional approaches by addressing the broader challenges that impact a young person’s ability to thrive, from family pressures and isolation to behavioural concerns or early signs of disengagement.

Project REBOOT

Part of Social Prescribing
Project REBOOT is a school-based programme that supports young people who struggle to engage with mainstream education. Participants are referred by their schools based on individual needs, which may include low attendance, behavioural challenges, involvement in risk-taking behaviours, or antisocial activity.

Buddy Buddy

Buddy Buddy is Chesterfield FC Community Trust’s dedicated veterans programme, bringing together ex-service personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Open to anyone who has served even one day in the armed forces, this monthly meetup provides a welcoming space for veterans to connect, share experiences, and build new friendships.

Held at the HUB on the last Thursday of each month, each session features a guest speaker. These may include former Chesterfield FC players, individuals with military experience, or inspiring local community members. Two of our members, who are retired military chefs, provide food, adding a real sense of camaraderie to the evening.

Why Join Buddy Buddy

  • Reconnect with fellow veterans and meet new people.
  • Enjoy a relaxed evening with food and conversation.
  • Hear from interesting guest speakers.
  • Get involved in other activities, such as our weekly running group.
  • Access discounted tickets to Chesterfield FC league matches.

Many veterans who met through Buddy Buddy now attend home games together, building strong social bonds and shared routines.

Weekly Running Group

In addition to the monthly meetings, Buddy Buddy also hosts a weekly running group every Wednesday at 4:30 pm. It is open to all veterans and offers a great way to stay active and connected.

How to Join

You do not need to register in advance. Come along to one of our sessions. You are welcome if you have served in any of the UK armed forces.

At your first session, you will be added to the Buddy WhatsApp group so you can stay informed about upcoming meetups and events.

Football for Life

SAME INFO IN LIVE WELL

Walking Football

Developed by Chesterfield FC Community Trust as part of the Extra Time Initiative in 2011, walking football is a slower-paced version of the sport that removes running. It was created to help individuals stay active while also reducing social isolation.

As the world’s first walking football club, the Trust continues to lead with sessions that make match-style football accessible to people of all fitness levels. Held in a relaxed, supportive environment, sessions prioritise fun, friendship, and physical activity.

What to Expect

  • Structured games without running, keeping one foot on the ground at all times.
  • Inclusive activity suitable for all abilities and levels of fitness.
  • Matches in small teams are designed to encourage teamwork and enjoyment.
  • A friendly social atmosphere where participation is encouraged over competition.

Community Impact

Walking football delivers both physical and social benefits. Research across the UK shows that it improves cardiovascular health, balance, and mental wellbeing and helps reduce loneliness.

Chesterfield was awarded a blue plaque in 2024 to mark the community trust’s pioneering role in walking football. The plaque recognises Chesterfield as the birthplace of the sport.

Why It Matters

  • Supports healthy ageing and physical wellbeing.
  • Offers space for social connection and shared experiences.
  • Reinforces routine through regular sessions.
  • Encourages new friendships and a sense of belonging.

How to Join

There is no formal registration; turn up and join in. For session times and venue details, contact the Trust or check our website.
