A blue plaque will be unveiled in a ceremony at the SMH Group Stadium from 6pm today to mark the fact that Chesterfield is the birthplace of organised walking football. Introduced by Chesterfield FC Community Trust, it is the fastest growing sport in the world.
The Spireites hosted the first WFA European Championship in 2019 and the IWFF World Championship in 2024.
Chesterfield FC/Community Trust CEO John Croot, who is credited as the inventor of walking football, will attend the ceremony, along with senior walking football figures.
All are welcome to attend the ceremony, taking place near the HUB, at the rear of the East Stand.
