A Safe and Supportive Space

Spireites in Mind is Chesterfield FC Community Trust’s dedicated dementia support group for former footballers, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for people living with dementia and their carers.

The group meets regularly at the SMH Group Stadium, offering friendship, fun, and meaningful activity in a familiar and supportive environment.

Meaningful Activities and Lasting Connections

Led by Spireites legend Sean O’Neill, sessions include gentle reminiscence activities, games, music, and themed discussions that often focus on football and local history. These sessions help to stimulate memory and conversation while encouraging connection and confidence.

Each gathering provides carers with the opportunity to share experiences, find support, and take time for themselves in a caring community.

Promoting Wellbeing Through Football

Working alongside local health and wellbeing partners, Spireites in Mind promotes positive mental health and reduces social isolation among older people in the community.

Many participants have shared how much the group means to them, offering a sense of belonging and the chance to spend quality time with others who understand their journey.

A guest speaker joins each month, sharing stories from their playing days, acting career, or professional experience in dementia care, adding something special to every session.

Making a Difference Together

By combining the power of football with compassionate community care, Chesterfield FC Community Trust continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
