The Trust will be hosting a Q&A session on the sport of walking football and its historic creation at 6 pm on Monday, March 23,  during the FA’s Walking Football Week.

The event will take place in the Chatsworth Suite at the SMH Group Stadium. This will be a free event; however, booking is essential.

By attending the Q&A, you will be able to hear from some of the creators of walking football, including Chesterfield FC and the Trust’s CEO John Croot, former Spireites striker Andy Morris and Adam Norman.

Since its creation in 2011, walking football has proven popular around the world, and you will also get the chance to hear from organisations and participants globally.

Speaking about hosting the event, Keith Jackson, deputy head of community, said: “It’s an exciting event for us to be hosting at the stadium. Being the birthplace of walking football, we want to celebrate our involvement in what is now a global sport.

“To get the people who created the sport in John Croot and then the people who coached those first sessions and helped produce the rules, the original Chesterfield rules, is really important to us.

“For people who are interested in walking football and how it started, it’s going to be a fascinating insight into the sport, but also an opportunity to ask any questions.

“There are going to be participants there from the current walking football group and players that took part in those initial sessions too, and they’ll be able to tell people what it’s all about.”

The Trust also hosts women’s walking football sessions and fixtures. Speaking about how important this is, Keith added: “We’ll also be hearing from our women’s walking football lead, Alyss Jackson, who’ll be talking about the growth of the women’s walking football game.

“Across the spectrum, it’s going to be a really insightful event, and it’ll be a great opportunity to get involved in a sport that is only going to continue to grow and support people in later life by remaining active and still playing football.”
