The Trust and Chesterfield Borough Council recently hosted a ‘Walking Sports Festival’ at Queens Park, where people could take part in five different walking variants of sports, such as football, cricket, netball, hockey, rugby.

The event took place to celebrate the Trust’s involvement in the creation of walking football 15 years ago, which was also covered by BBC East Midlands Today. You can watch the feature here.

Head of community, Jayne Bacon, spoke on the day. She said: “We know that keeping active has such a positive impact on our physical, mental health and wellbeing so the idea of being active for longer by doing walking sports is just brilliant.

“The event exceeded all my expectations, the atmosphere was engaging and fun – with 150 people aged 50+ taking part in five sports across the evening.  If only ten people now take part in walking sports from this event, it will have been a success and it will be life changing for them.

“A huge thank you to the clubs who came to support this great event and to Chesterfield Borough Council for their support in planning, funding and hosting in the beautiful Queens Park.”
