Chesterfield Sunday League (CSL) are heading into their 60th anniversary in the 2026/27 season, which will be celebrated at Chesterfield FC’s home fixture against Barnet this weekend alongside the Trust.
Chris Roberts of CSL spoke on how the league’s anniversary will be commemorated on Saturday. He said: “The league have spent a lot of money trying to promote the brand of the league and the good name throughout the county.
“We’ve had quite a lot of press coverage in recent weeks as we come into the 60th anniversary season. On Saturday, Chesterfield Football Club are very kindly helping us to promote the 60th anniversary. There will be pictures on screen of well-known personalities from the Chesterfield Sunday League.
“In addition, Chesterfield Sunday League ball plinths will be used as the players walk out for their pre-game warm ups. Chesterfield on Saturday will be using our 60th anniversary corner flags too.”
Chris also spoke about some of the ex-Chesterfield FC personnel who have played in the CSL. He added: “Ernie Moss and Kevin Randall both played after their professional careers were finished, so it’s quite a strong bond with the club that we have.”
Finally, Chris explained how important the league is in the town. “The league started obviously in 1966,” he said. “The very first fixtures were actually played just 29 days after England won the World Cup.
“Since then, Chesterfield Sunday League has been quite a significant part of the town’s fabric. Thousands of players have played, referees, volunteers down the years. The 60th anniversary is something we’re quite excited about.”
