The Trust’s ABC group meetings, for those affected by cancer, continue to attract good support.
Andrea Parkinson, who runs the sessions alongside Dawn Warrington from Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “The group, which has been running for several years now, is well attended, with 60 participants, on average, per meeting.
“The group is for anyone affected by cancer, so that includes people going through treatment or it could be family members that have lost loved ones through cancer. It’s a very informal group where we have cakes, refreshments and a guest speaker.
“Throughout the year as a group, we plan two coach trips, where the venue is decided by the group, and we also host a celebration event in the summer for all participants.”
On the support received from Macmillan Cancer Support, Andrea said: “I think the balance is good as you’ve got me, from a Community Trust point of view, who can talk about other programmes that we deliver, while Dawn can give that health professional advice to those that need it.”
Those who attend the sessions have provided very positive feedback. “We’ve been told that the group is very welcoming and friendly,” said Andrea.
“We get new people attend all the time and it is important for them that they’re not going through things alone and they can sit with someone that’s going through something similar.”
The next ABC meeting will be on Thursday, April 10 in the SBK Spires Restaurant, at the SMH Group Stadium, from 10am until 12pm.
It is free to attend and there is no need to sign-up. Participants are welcome to turn up on the day. If you would like more information, please contact Andrea by emailing andreaparkinson@cfcct.org.uk.
