The Trust held a walking football Q&A session earlier this week, featuring the sport’s creator, John Croot, alongside the coaches at the first sessions, Andy Morris and Adam Norman.
The event took place in line with the FA’s Walking Football Week, from March 23 to April 3, celebrating the sport that originated in Chesterfield.
Speaking immediately after the Q&A, former Spireites striker Andy said: “It’s been a great evening, seeing all the old players who were there from the beginning, when Sky Sports came round to see what we did at Queen’s Park.
“It was just lovely to touch base with everybody again, and obviously it’s been 16 years, which is unbelievable, really.”
‘Bruno’ reflected on the growth of the sport since it was founded in 2011, adding: “It’s so surreal, it’s like a little baby of yours. You think, this is just going to be a nice little project.
“Then, before you know it, it’s ballooned into millions of people all over the world playing. It’s touched the hearts of all those people who thought football was over for them, and it’s given them a new lease of life, which is amazing, really.”
Finally, he praised the work of the Trust, saying: “When I was at the Trust, we were at Saltergate, and we were just in a little room, and when we arrived here, we were just in the Portakabin in the corner.
“To see what you’ve got now in the East Stand, it’s unbelievable. For people to have access to all the different projects the Trust hosts and runs is brilliant, and long may it continue.”
