Rob Bonewell

For Rob Bonewell, involvement with Chesterfield FC Community Trust began with something simple, a visit to the Hub Café. What followed became a meaningful part of his and his late wife Lynne’s weekly routine.

Lynne quickly became involved in activities such as crafts and social groups, drawing on her background working with children and her natural ability to connect with others. Rob soon followed, initially hesitant but eventually joining exercise sessions and community activities.

Their Wednesdays became structured around Trust activities, providing both routine and enjoyment. From social sessions to group activities, these experiences brought opportunities to meet new people and build lasting friendships.

The Senior Spireites programme plays an important role in reducing isolation and promoting wellbeing among older members of the community. For Rob and Lynne, it created a welcoming environment where they could engage, socialise, and feel part of something.

Even after Lynne’s passing, the Trust continues to hold a special place in Rob’s life. His ongoing support reflects the lasting impact the programme has had on him and his family.

This story demonstrates the importance of accessible community spaces that bring people together, foster connection, and provide support at every stage of life.
