Chesterfield FC Community Trust is delighted to announce Smurfit Westrock as a Gold Friend of the Trust.

After the company became a partner of the Trust, Smurfit Westrock’s Richard Owen said: “We’ve been involved with Trust for probably coming up to a couple of years now. Last year we started with the hamper boxes and then recently we’ve got our community engagement team at the site involved.

“We’ve done charity work for probably eight to ten years in the community. When we came down and viewed the facilities – actually at one of the events that the Trust held – we said straight away that we need to get involved.”

Richard praised the work that the Trust does in the Chesterfield community, which helped them in their decision to become a Friend of the Trust.

“The diverse work that you do all the way through, in and around the Chesterfield area, is just phenomenal, and straight away, not just as a management team, we said we need to get involved in this. We took it back to the forum, we had your guys come over, and straight away, everyone on the team said, ‘we need to back it and get involved as much as we can’.

“When we have seen your work and the donations, how did it impact the community? It just gives a sense of pride, not just from a business side of things, but personal.”

Richard also urged other businesses to get involved with the Trust, saying: “It is one of the best things that you’ll do as a business and as individuals. We’re not just doing the monetary side of things, we’re getting the whole site together, in excess of 100 staff. We want to get involved in actually donating our time, not just financially.”

Richard revealed that the Trust will also become the chosen charity of Smurfit Westrock, Chesterfield.
