Youth Diversion at Chesterfield FC Community Trust delivers prevention, intervention, and educational support to help young people make positive choices. The programme is designed to reduce risk-taking behaviour and support emotional wellbeing, while offering opportunities to build confidence, take on new challenges, and contribute to their community.

We offer tailored initiatives to support young people across Chesterfield, Bolsover, Buxton, and the wider Derbyshire area. These include Boots on the Ground, Project REBOOT, and the Youth Hub. Each project provides targeted, practical help for young people experiencing barriers to education, social engagement, or safe decision-making.

Key Programmes

Boots on the Ground
This outreach initiative connects with young people directly in their local community. Delivered in partnership with Derbyshire County Council, it offers a friendly presence, early intervention, and access to mentoring, helping to build trust, confidence, and resilience. It also provides a gateway to further activities delivered through the Trust.

Project REBOOT
REBOOT is delivered in local secondary schools and supports pupils who struggle to engage in mainstream education. Participants may have poor attendance, behavioural issues, or be at risk of exclusion. The programme focuses on raising aspirations, promoting positive life choices, and increasing awareness of issues affecting the local area. Activities include mentoring sessions, community volunteering, group work, and enrichment trips.

Youth Hub
The Youth Hub is a safe and welcoming space in Chesterfield town centre where young people can access support, workshops, and social opportunities. The Hub offers sessions on emotional wellbeing, healthy relationships, and practical life skills such as CV writing, interview preparation, and accredited first aid. It also provides a space for informal drop-ins and creative projects, allowing young people to build connections with trusted adults.

Community Partnerships

Chesterfield FC Community Trust works closely with a range of partners to deliver meaningful outcomes for young people. One example is our ongoing collaboration with Derbyshire County Council’s Leaving Care Team. This partnership provides additional support for care-experienced young people, helping them to build life skills, explore training opportunities, and access support as they transition to independent living.

Why It Matters

Youth Diversion is about early support, positive relationships, and creating a sense of belonging. By providing access to safe spaces, structured activities, and trusted mentors, the programme helps young people grow in confidence and avoid harmful behaviours.

The Benefits Include:

  • A reduction in anti-social behaviour and disengagement
  • Improved confidence and life skills
  • Greater community involvement through volunteering and events
  • Access to new experiences and qualifications
  • Stronger relationships with schools, youth workers, and support services
