Chesterfield FC Community Trust Women will face Sheffield Wednesday Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup Qualifying Round on Sunday 23rd August at 2:00pm.
Head of women’s and girls football, Michelle Slater, commented on the upcoming tie, saying: “For them, it’s the first game of the season. The season doesn’t officially start until September. They’ve had a couple of good friendlies they look good in training. They’re definitely looking forward to it.
“The team itself will be a big change from last year. We have still got six or seven experienced players that have been playing for the Trust for some time, but then the majority of the team will be made up of 16-year-olds that played in the JPL last year.
“It’ll be the first time a lot of these players have ever played in the FA Cup. I’m sure there’ll be some nerves, but there is also lots of excitement.”
Continuing with the FA Cup experience around the club and the Trust’s staff, Michelle added: “Steph [O’Brien] was in an FA Cup final in 2009 when she played for Sunderland against Arsenal. So, she’s talked about her memories and fondness of the FA Cup.
“Of course myself, I’ve played in the FA Cup as well. I’ve actually been in seven FA Cup finals. For me the FA Cup is one of those cups that’s quite prestigious in women’s football. And we should really be keeping that alive really, how important the FA Cup is.”
Finally, Michelle explained about how you can show your support to the team on Sunday. She said: “The game is being played at Go Active at Clay Cross.
“It’s a two o’clock kick-off. Please get behind the team. Any locals as well, from Clay Cross and Chesterfield. It’s entry-free.”
