The Trust has teamed up with Derbyshire Constabulary and the Community Safety Partnership to create a community patchwork t-shirt, promoting activities for young people in the local area to combat anti-social behaviour.

The community patchwork t-shirt was created by the Trust’s Knit and Natter group, run by Debbie Dance.

Activities include:

  • Mixed Premier League Kicks football sessions on Fridays for ages 11-18
  • Girls’ football sessions on Tuesdays for ages 11-16
  • Dance and drama sessions on Tuesdays for ages 8-18
  • Multisport and gym sessions on Wednesday nights

Matt Adcock of Derbyshire Constabulary spoke about their Winter of Action, saying: “The shirt is going to be the banner for youth diversion projects, running through our Winter of Action.

“We will continue to be out and about as normal throughout the winter, but as part of this project, we wanted to highlight that there are things to do in the evening in Chesterfield for young people – and that we want to work with, and not against, them.”

Ryan Cheshire, youth engagement mentor at the Trust, spoke about the impact that the Trust has on young people, saying: “Reboot is our early prevention project within secondary schools in Chesterfield.

“We’re currently in four schools, working with children at risk of exclusion from school and anti-social behaviour in the community. We try to divert them away from this through workshops and confidence-building activities.

“Premier League Kicks is an activity-based sessions that take place out in the community every night from Tuesday to Friday, at different locations such as the town centre, Queens Park and Barrow Hill, engaging children in football and multi-sports.

“Finally, Boots on the Ground is on a Thursday and Saturday evening, from 6-9 pm, where we patrol the town centre and have conversations with young people, letting them know that we’re there for them if they need us.”
