Job Title:  Youth Outreach Mentor

Pay: £20.00 per hour

Base: Community – Chesterfield

Job Description:

Engaging with young people (typically aged 11-18) in community settings, providing support, guidance, and signposting to services.

Building trusted relationships with young people on their own terms and supporting them with personal, social, and educational development.

Safeguarding young people by identifying and supporting vulnerable individuals

Salary: Casual Contract – £20 per hour

3 hours per week this could be subject to change.

Boots on the Ground, CFCCT youth outreach project is expanding.

A well-established Community project, working alongside partner organisations including Chesterfield Community Safety Partnerships, Police and Childrens services.

CFCCT youth engagement team operate shifts in Chesterfield, and work Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings 6pm-9pm (maybe subject to change).

Patrolling the town centres and other anti-social behaviour hot spots, the priority is to engage and build relationships with young people with the aim of reducing ASB and criminal damage whilst supporting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Staff will be required to undertake any relevant training.

Patrol staff will be expected to complete end of shift documentation, safeguarding reports and system updates.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Work as part of a team.
• Must be fit and able to walk for 3-hour shifts.
• Must be willing to work in all weathers.
• Good communicator.
• Confidence to approach and communicate with groups/individuals engaging in ASB and criminal damage activities.
• Flexibility- you may be asked to cover shifts.
• Mandatory training will be provided (e.g. safeguarding and first aid).
• Liaising with local partner organisations and emergency services as necessary.
• Complete end of shift documentation, safeguarding and incident reports.
• Signposting children and young people to relevant local support services.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

• Minimum of 1 years’ experience of Youth Work.
• Experience of working with vulnerable families, children and young people.
• Minimum of 3 GCSE’s, to include Mathematics and English.
• Previous safeguarding training (young people focused).
• Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) certificate – you must go through the FA DBS process even if you hold a current DBS.
• Must have good basic English writing skills (you will be required to write up end of shift reports).

DESIRABLE

• Relevant qualification(s).
• Knowledge of local area
• Driving license.
• Up to date safeguarding qualification.
• Up to date first aid qualification.
• Knowledge of local support services.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Previous experience in a similar role.
• A positive attitude towards professional development and their own learning.
• Experience of working with children & young people within our communities.
• Basic level IT skills.
• Experience and knowledge of social inclusion, community and youth engagement and/or equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Demonstrate Knowledge and a clear understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
